Innovation mission Medical Technology - India
Are you active in (bio)medical technology (MedTech), medical imaging, diagnostics, digital health, AI in healthcare or data-driven health innovation? And would you like to explore future market opportunities in India for co-creation, research and development partnerships, and scalable pilots with Indian innovators? Then join the Medical Technology innovation mission to India.

Why India?
India is undergoing a major transformation in medical technology (MedTech), digital health, AI-assisted diagnostics and health data infrastructure. The MedTech sector is now valued at $16–20 billion. This value is estimated to reach $24–30 billion by 2030, driven by medical device and technology manufacturing, diagnostics, and AI-enhanced clinical tools. With over 10,000 HealthTech and MedTech startups, strong engineering talent, and supportive national policies for R&D and manufacturing, India offers significant opportunities for collaboration in:
- AI for medical imaging & biosignal processing;
- data-driven healthcare solutions;
- wearable technology and electronics (wearables);
- remote monitoring and home care solutions;
- cloud-based diagnostics and digital therapeutics;
- device design, prototyping & manufacturing;
- clinical validation in large and diverse patient populations.
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) - India's national digital health backbone - is accelerating the standardisation of electronic health records (EHR), interoperability, and the portability of health data for more than 1.4 billion people. This scale makes India one of the world's largest test environments for AI in healthcare, population-level data infrastructure, digital public goods and the integration of medical devices.
What can you expect from the mission?
The mission brings together experts from the Dutch and Indian ecosystems to explore opportunities for research and development, strengthen collaborations, and develop MedTech solutions that address healthcare challenges. The goal is to increase our understanding of the MedTech landscape, AI in healthcare, and the digital health ecosystem in India. We focus on cross-border innovation collaborations and contribute to the development of a strong infrastructure for innovation.
Possible areas for collaboration include the use of AI-driven, labour-saving technologies to address healthcare staff shortages in the Netherlands (for example in elderly care, oncology screening and chronic disease management). In addition, there are opportunities for cross-border R&D, with Dutch innovators collaborating with Indian research hubs to jointly develop AI algorithms, clinical datasets, and innovative healthcare technologies.
Who can participate?
This mission is intended for innovators, researchers, engineers, clinicians, ethicists, entrepreneurs, business developers and anyone affiliated with a knowledge institution, academic medical centre, technology company or patient organisation.
Are you actively involved in one of the MedTech domains mentioned under 'Why India'? Then this innovation mission may be of interest to you.
Draft programme
During the mission, we will visit 3 important hubs: New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Each hub represents a crucial part of India's policy, digital health and MedTech ecosystem.
- New Delhi is the centre of India's health policy, digital health architecture and regulatory ecosystem. It provides the policy, regulatory, health data and national programme context essential for international collaboration.
- Bengaluru is India's strongest cluster for AI, digital health, imaging, machine learning-based diagnostics and device-software integration. This makes it an ideal ecosystem for collaborating with pioneers in AI-healthcare, imaging experts, biosignal processing researchers, digital health platforms, and deep-tech MedTech innovators.
- Hyderabad complements Delhi and Bengaluru by offering scalable manufacturing and clinical validation environments. Telangana's life sciences vision aims for an investment of €12–13 billion by 2030. This provides insight into MedTech manufacturing, prototyping, device certification infrastructure, large-scale diagnostic companies, and robust clinical data environments.
The programme is designed to provide a broad overview of the latest developments in these 3 major hubs. It includes visits covering a wide range of topics related to innovation, policy-making and ecosystem development in MedTech, AI in healthcare and digital health.
The programme is still under development. We will tailor the final programme as much as possible to the interests of the participants.
The working language during the mission is English. At the bottom of the drop-down menu, you will find the programme as a pdf, containing links to relevant websites for more information.
