Development Cooperation

Why do we need development cooperation?

For people in developing countries, there is no easy way out of poverty. Even people with a job are not guaranteed a fair salary or good conditions. The best way to encourage development and fight poverty is responsible economic growth. Entrepreneurs, governments and knowledge institutes can stimulate economic growth through activities and projects. Emerging markets and developing countries also offer opportunities for Dutch businesses.

Funding development cooperation

Whether you are looking to finance an international project, a business idea or cooperation, we offer different funding options for your development ambitions. Our subsidies and programmes are open to organisations and institutions in and outside of the Netherlands. Find out more about the best options for you in our subsidy guide

Development cooperation themes

Many organisations have already used one of our subsidies or programmes for their development cooperation projects. You can find examples and more information about these themes on the following pages:

  • Find a partner for your development project

Within a project, it can be quite difficult to find the right partners. Where to begin? Through our external network, you can find parties that are experienced in projects involving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • Expand your international network

Do you want to develop your international network? The Dutch government has a worldwide economic network with more than 150 embassies, consulates and trade offices (NBSOs) abroad. Found out how we can help.

  • Tenders for infrastructural projects

Besides applying for a programme directly, you sometimes need to make use of a tender procedure. This is the case for the programmes D2B, ORIO and DRIVE.
