Is your company operating in the field of smart and sustainable urban development, and are you interested in the elaboration of your activities within the European Union? Join us from 13 to 16 November on our Climate neutral & Smart City mission during the Smart City World Expo Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona.

The yearly event of SCEWC in Barcelona is the place where companies, entrepreneurs, startups, cities, and research institutions in the field of climate neutrality and smart cities meet. This year, another congress about urban mobility takes place simultaneously. These 2 business fairs are important places to network and do business with cities, companies, and investors. Before this mission takes place, there is the opportunity to follow an impact assessment training. The purpose of this training is to measure the impact of your innovative solution to sustainability and climate neutrality in a quantitative manner. This complements the European frameworks and methodologies for cities to report their contribution to climate neutrality.

Why take part and for whom?

Participation is possible for Dutch companies (with a preference for startups, scale-ups and SMEs), with export ambitions that aim to offer solutions for societal challenges in cities. The purpose of this mission is to support Dutch startups, scale-ups, and innovative SMEs with their growth in Europe. Besides the offer of following the impact assessment training, it will be investigated to what extent frameworks and possible financing of the European Commission could strengthen your proposition. Together with the participating startups, scale-ups, and SMEs, we want to position the Netherlands as a frontrunner in urban, sustainable innovation. When you participate in this mission, you will get the chance to:

  • present your product or service to a large international public;
  • attract new customers;
  • elaborate on your international professional network;
  • team up with strategic partnerships with other stakeholders;
  • meet potential investors;
  • obtain knowledge about possibilities from EU programs (which support cities in their goals for climate neutrality).
Matchmaking is facilitated by Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), the largest support network for SMEs in the world!

With this mission, you will benefit from:
  • an impact assessment training of your innovative solution (online or offline);
  • participating the preparation meeting (offline) in the Netherlands;
  • participating the business forum, side events, and networking activities of the mission;
  • tickets for unlimited access to the SCEWC Expo and Tomorrow. Mobility for 2 participants per company;
  • the possibility to use the NL Pavilion as a meeting point on the SCEWC.

Travel and accommodation

Travel and accommodation are at your own expense. This also applies to meals and drinks, unless stated otherwise in the programme. After the selection process of the participants, you will receive information on the hotel where the delegation leaders stay. It is not mandatory to stay in the same hotel. However, participants of earlier missions found it useful and nice to stay in the same hotel.

The organisation will decide 8 weeks in advance whether to proceed with the trade mission. They will base their decision on the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event's entry regulations, and the local situation in Spain. Participants will be informed immediately if the event is postponed or cancelled. If that is the case, we will not collect any fees. Even after a decision to allow the mission to go ahead, the organisation reserves the right to cancel the trade mission in the event of unforeseen circumstances. We will not charge any participant costs in such cases. Participants are responsible for arranging travel and accommodation. They must cancel travel and accommodation arrangements themselves if we cancel the mission. Any costs associated with this are for the participant.

Corporate Social Responsibility

The Dutch government places importance on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and endorses the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. These state the CSR standards for internationally active entrepreneurs. Following the OECD guidelines is one of the conditions for participation in this mission.

Register for this mission before 7 October. A maximum of 30 companies can participate in this mission. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency finds it important that the participating companies are related to the content and focus of this mission. When you sign up, you are not automatically assured of participating. At the beginning of October, we send you an update about the confirmation of your participation. We stimulate inclusion, diversity, and women entrepreneurship. We select your participation not based on gender, but we challenge you to look for female participants within your organisation for this mission.
