The deadline to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the net-zero climate goals is getting closer. SDG 7 focuses on access to affordable and clean energy by 2030. The latest SDG 7 tracking report concludes that the world is not on track to meet this goal. That is why we need to speed up the energy transition.
The NL Energy Compact
To speed up the energy transition in developing countries and fight climate change and poverty, more than 25 organisations in the Netherlands have teamed up. Participants include companies, financiers, knowledge institutes, development and humanitarian organisations, and government organisations. They are now part of the NL Energy Compact. The compact aims to tackle SDG7 challenges by bringing together the expertise, innovation, networks, investment and implementing power of stakeholders from the Netherlands.
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Tom de Bruijn will launch the compact on 15 September. He will also present it at the UN High-level Dialogue on Energy on 24 September 2021.
The NL Energy Compact will help people in low and middle-income countries reach the SDG7 goals by 2030 and contribute to net-zero emissions by 2050. It will support a just and inclusive energy transition that is gender-sensitive, locally-led and globally connected.
