World EXPO

The 35th universal world exhibition will be held from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, a record of 190 participating countries will be presenting ideas, innovations and technologies geared to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The EXPO is expected to attract around 25 million visitors, 70% of them from outside the UAE.

This event is an ideal opportunity for the Netherlands to demonstrate innovative and sustainable solutions to water, energy and food issues, with particular focus on how they are interrelated. And enhancing cooperation between the Netherlands and the Gulf Region lays strong foundations for a lasting partnership in the future.

The pavilion as biotope

The Netherlands will be setting the tone with a circular pavilion that functions as a self-contained biotope, creating a unique experience that will stimulate the senses of day visitors and business visitors alike and allow them to experience and visualise the connection between water, energy and food.

Multiyear campaign

The Gulf Region is especially interesting to the Netherlands, for a number of reasons. Countries in the region use a lot of water and energy, and 85% of their food is imported. The Gulf Region is also currently setting ambitious goals to safeguard the planet for future generations. Greater self-sufficiency is an important part of this. Dutch businesses, researchers and knowledge institutions are ideally placed to offer the knowledge and experience this requires.

A multiyear campaign Dutch Dubai: Uniting water, energy and food has been launched to promote Dubai EXPO 2020. A wide range of events will be held with Dutch organisations in the run-up to and during the EXPO. The linking theme is water, energy and food. The Dutch pavilion will be a highlight, functioning as a platform where day visitors, knowledge institutions and the government can meet and consider solutions for the future.

Tender document

The tender documents, which can be found at TenderNed, state the objectives, the requirements that must be met, and how tenders will be assessed. Participants can tender individually or as part of a consortium. You can submit your tender up to and including Monday 2 September 2019.
