A Singaporean delegation visited the Netherlands for a programme on healthy ageing and integrated elderly care. Population ageing is a significant social challenge in Singapore. In August 2015, the country launched the Action Plan for Successful Ageing, with a budget of 3 billion Singapore dollars (around €2 billion). The delegation was interested in social-organisational innovations and smart infrastructure and architectural solutions, as well as the use of institutional care versus homecare. Preventive measures to keep people healthy and independent for as long as possible were also discussed after demonstrations of technologies such as serious gaming.
After the visit kicked off at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, delegates visited organisations including Buurtzorg (‘Neighbourhood Care’), the UMCG/the Healthy Ageing Network Northern Netherlands (HANNN), the Health Hub Roden, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) in Zeist and a healthcare centre in Maarssen. The programme ended with a networking event where the delegates could meet their Dutch counterparts in the life sciences and health sectors.
