UVN Dutch innovation in agri-food, cultural heritage, fashion and water

A month before King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima’s state visit to Italy and Vatican City, the Netherlands welcomed a delegation of journalists representing Italy’s biggest newspapers. The programme looked ahead to the main themes of the royal couple’s visit, as well as focusing on sectors represented in the parallel trade mission.

The absolute highlight of the visit was on the first day of the programme, when the group was received in Paleis Noordeinde for a meeting with His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. The King answered questions about current affairs, his personal experiences with Italy and relations between the two countries.

Hans de Boer of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW), which is also closely involved with outgoing trade missions, gave an introductory talk on the Netherlands. Later there were presentations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on agriculture in the greenhouse area in Bleiswijk, followed by a visit to Wageningen University and Research Centre. At the Mauritshuis and Rijkmuseum the delegation learned about state-of-the-art initiatives to incorporate digital media into the museum experience – a development that is drawing new and younger audiences to Dutch museums. Dutch fashion and design were showcased in Arnhem’s fashion district, by designer Edwin Oudshoorn, and at Denim City in Amsterdam.
