In October 2017, Dutch foreign minister Bert Koenders and trade minister Lilianne Ploumen led a delegation of 35 companies on a trade mission to Portugal. The mission coincided with a state visit by the Dutch King and Queen. Prior to these visits, the Dutch embassy invited seven journalists, including from two major television broadcasters, to the Netherlands for a media tour.
The tour’s cultural and economic themes aligned closely with the themes of the state visit and trade mission: Dutch innovation in airport and aerospace development, sustainable energy and cultural heritage. Highlights included a visit to the creative industry centre Pakhuis de Zwijger in connection with the New Europe – Cities in Transition project in Mouraria, Portugal, a tour of the Netherlands Aerospace Centre, and a dinner hosted by the Portuguese Ambassador in The Hague. The tour enabled the journalists to uncover the stories behind the state visit’s programme.
