How it works
From 2016 on UVN is an instrument of BZ/COM and the content and the context of the media tours have got a new set up. Via the programme, journalists from all types of media and from specific countries are invited to visit the Netherlands to report on specific themes, mainly related to State visits and strategic economic missions. The goal is to create more exposure to this visits and missions.
Number and costs
RVO.nl will organise about 12 media tours in 2016. A visit usually takes 3 days. The group size will be maximum 8 participants per visit. All costs of the invited journalists, including flights and accommodation in the Netherlands, are covered for by the programme.
Selection of delegations & media
The types of media entitled to participate are: journalists from newspapers, magazines, blogs, but also radio and TV crews. The selection of media and journalists is done by the embassy or consulate. The composition of a journalists delegation may vary, there are mainly three options:
- Most common will be a group of journalists out of a country, to where a State visit, a strategic trade mission of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Minister of Foreign Trade is planned soon after. The journalists will have a meeting with the King or/and one of the Ministers and will be introduced to the themes of the State visit or the strategic mission and to the sectors and some of the firms of the trade mission.
- In a few cases it will be possible for an Embassy to send in a proposal for a media tour within the framework of a special occasion in the bilateral relations.
- And the last option might be the initiative for a media tour related to a special event in The Netherlands.
