Are you active in research, innovation, technology development, and the industrial application of biorefinery and/or the development of biobased chemicals, materials, or fuels? And are you interested in learning about the latest developments in these areas in Canada and establishing or strengthening contacts there? Then this innovation mission is for you!

We are pleased to announce the upcoming Innovation Mission Biorefineries & Biobased Products Canada, taking place in November 2026. This mission offers a unique chance to gain insight into Canada's latest developments and investments in integrated biorefineries and biobased products: a sector that plays a crucial role in the transition toward a sustainable, circular and climate‑neutral industry.

What to expect

The mission brings together experts from the Dutch and Canadian ecosystems. Participants will have the opportunity to:
•    explore new R&I opportunities;
•    build partnerships with companies, research institutes, and government organisations to collaborate on the development and scaling of biorefinery technologies, biobased chemicals, materials and fuels;
•    gain insight into feedstock valorisation, process innovation and industrial applications.

Together, we aim to strengthen the biobased industry through technological progress and international cooperation.

Why Canada?

Canada is investing heavily in making its (chemical) industry more sustainable and reducing its reliance on fossil resources. The country has abundant biomass available, from forestry, sawmills, food processing and crop residues, which aligns well with Dutch technology and expertise.
The combination of Canada's strong feedstock position and the Netherlands' strengths in process and product innovation makes collaboration both logical and promising.

Who can participate?

This mission is intended for R&D managers, business development managers, CTOs, and CEOs of companies and knowledge institutions. Are you active in biorefineries, biobased chemicals, materials or fuels and interested in Dutch-Canadian collaboration? Then this mission is highly relevant for you.
