Call for Experts - DRR Honduras - Water Governance

DRR-team is looking for 1 - 2 experts for a mission in Honduras on flood management in the period of end of September - November 2023.

Context

Over the past few years, the Aguán Valley was hit very hard during hurricane Eta and Iota (2020) and by tropical storms and hurricanes that made landfall close to Honduras (2022). The entire basin is prone to floodings, as well as landslides as a result of soil saturation due to excess rainfall and the level of deforestation on high slopes. Climate change has made these events more frequent and more intense. Prevention is therefore back on the agenda.

Keeping the upcoming hurricane and wet season in mind, Honduras is interested in sustainable management of existing natural resources in the basin to reduce risks and avoid costly damages to infrastructure, especially to the agriculture of the valley of Aguán. This valley is very important to the economy of Honduras, as it provides large-scale employment and also high value agricultural exports.

Goal of the mission

The focus of the DRR-Team mission will be to support the Aguán Valley on flood management practices and approaches.

Requirements

A Team leader for this assignment has already been selected as this mission follows from the scoping mission which took place in June 2023. The Team leader who has been selected has been deployed in several DRR missions on River Management and masters the Spanish language.

To complete the DRR-Team for Honduras we are looking for the following expertise:

  • Expert in water governance and institutional aspects, with experience in Public-Private Partnerships, water finance and organisational structures.

Experience in Honduras is a plus. Knowledge of Spanish is a must.

A balanced team regarding gender and localisation is preferred and aimed for.

Planning

The planning for this assignment is roughly from September till November 2023. Total expected deployment is approximately 10 days. The deployment of the expert will be on site.
