Water experts for Port Sudan
CLOSED: The objective is to support UNOPS with the implementation of the recommended strategies and solutions towards Sustainable Water Supply for Port Sudan and to look for the best ways to overcome the water scarcity in Port Sudan on both the short term as well as the long term.
On 25 August 2024, the Arba’at Dam, located approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Port Sudan, collapsed following the flood due to heavy rains. As Arba'at Dam and well fields are the primary sources of water for the coastal city of Port Sudan, the city and surrounding community has now lost the main water source for both domestic use and cultivation.
UNOPS has requested DRRS to support with technical advice in this difficult situation.
We are looking for the following profiles:
1. Geohydrologist
2. GIS/Remote Sensing Expert (with hydrology knowledge)
3. Dam Engineer
4. Communication Expert (with experience on infographics)
5. Hydrologist
6. Water supply engineer
Requirements:
- Be a senior expert in your field
- To have a backup network for support in your field of expertise
- Able to rapidly assess situations and data and provide conceptual and practical solutions
- To have a passion for solving complex international water challenges
Knowledge and or experience of the area of Port Sudan is much appreciated.
Knowledge of Arabic is appreciated.
A limited workload of approximately 7-10 days is anticipated, to be executed on a part time basis over the next 2-3 months.
In principle, the team will work remotely. There is potential for travel for a subset of the team if the situation allows.
