For whom?

This mission is open to innovators, researchers, engineers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, business developers, and representatives of knowledge institutions, academic medical centers, hospitals, technology companies, and patient organizations. Would you like to explore opportunities for joint R&D, clinical validation, technology development, and strategic partnerships with leading Indian innovators, hospitals, and research institutions?

If you are actively engaged in the above-mentioned domains, this innovation mission is of interest to you.

Why India?

India's healthcare and MedTech ecosystem is expanding rapidly, driven by growing demand for advanced diagnostics, precision medicine, and improved access to specialised care. Medical imaging is playing an increasingly important role in early diagnosis, treatment planning, and minimally invasive interventions.

India's medical-device sector, estimated at $ 11 billion in 2022, is projected to reach $ 50 billion by 2030. This growth is supported by national initiatives promoting domestic manufacturing, technological innovation, research and development, and digital health.

With its diverse patient population, high clinical volumes, leading research institutions, and growing MedTech ecosystem, India offers a strong environment for technology development, clinical validation, and innovation partnerships.

The Netherlands brings complementary strengths in imaging science, photonics, computational technologies, artificial intelligence, and medical robotics. Combining these capabilities with India's clinical expertise, research infrastructure, and innovation ecosystem creates opportunities for impactful Indo-Dutch collaboration.

Potential areas for collaboration include:

  • High-resolution & computational imaging
  • Image-guided interventions & medical robotics
  • AI & advanced image analysis
  • Imaging Data & Digital Infrastructure

What to expect

This mission will bring together Dutch and Indian experts, innovators, researchers, clinicians, and industry representatives to explore opportunities for collaboration in next-generation medical imaging. With a focus on high-resolution and computational imaging, advanced MRI, image-guided interventions, and medical robotics, the programme will connect participants with leading research institutions, hospitals, and technology companies across India's innovation ecosystem.

Over five days, participants will gain insights into India's capabilities in medical imaging, ranging from fundamental research and technology development to clinical translation, product innovation, and industrial R&D.

By connecting Dutch strengths in imaging science, photonics, computational technologies, and medical robotics with India's research capabilities, clinical expertise, and growing MedTech ecosystem, the mission aims to lay the foundations for sustainable partnerships and the development of scalable next-generation medical imaging solutions.

Mission objectives

Throughout the mission, particular attention will be given to identifying complementary Dutch and Indian expertise, exploring opportunities for joint research and technology development, and establishing connections between research institutions, clinical partners, and industry.

Draft programme

The programme will include:

  • Day 1 | Hyderabad – Policy, research & innovation: Exploring India's research and innovation landscape, with visits to institutions such as IIT Hyderabad. Focus areas include computational imaging, AI, and medical robotics.
  • Day 2 | Hyderabad – Clinical translation: Engaging with leading healthcare institutions, including Apollo and LVPEI, to explore clinical imaging applications, clinical validation, and AI in medical imaging.
  • Day 3 | Chennai – Joint R&D & product development: Connecting with IIT Madras, its Research Park, and HTIC to explore opportunities in imaging hardware, computational diagnostics, and medical device development.
  • Day 4 | Bengaluru – Industrial R&D: Visiting Philips Innovation Campus and IISc to gain insights into imaging systems, image reconstruction, and AI-driven imaging technologies.
  • Day 5 | Bengaluru – Clinical & ecosystem engagement: Connecting with St. John's and C-CAMP to explore clinical validation, MedTech startups, and opportunities for R&D partnerships.

The innovation mission is organised by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the Netherlands Innovation Network in India. The programme is still under development and will be tailored to meet the interests of participants as much as possible. The working language throughout the mission will be English.
