Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden Wind Farm Zone (TNWWFZ) is located 30.2 nautical miles (56 km) off the north coast of the Netherlands. There will be one wind farm site designated in the TNWWFZ: Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden Wind Farm Site I (TNWWFS I). A tender for the permit to develop TNWWFS I will be issued by the Dutch Government.

The total surface area of TNWWFS I (including maintenance and safety zones) is approximately 120 km². TNWWFS I will accommodate 700 MW of offshore wind capacity. The existing Gemini Wind Farm (600 MW) lies within TNWWFZ and is adjacent to TNWWFS I. Transmission system operator TenneT will build a grid connection and construct one offshore platform in the TNWWFZ.

Planning

In December 2021, the State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy decided more research is required before finalising the route for the export cables from Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden Wind Farm Site (TNWWFS) to shore. As a result, the TNWWFS tender will not take place in 2022 as originally planned, and therefore the wind farm may not be realised in 2027. A new schedule for the TNWWFS tender is expected to be announced later this year.

However, a lot of preparatory work for TNWWFS has been completed, including an environmental impact assessment. A draft Wind Farm Site Decision (WFSD) is being prepared and the site characterisation studies are almost finished. To complete this phase, the WFSD will be made available for inspection in the first quarter of 2022 and the results of the location studies will be presented.

Available site studies

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency has commissioned various studies about Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden Wind Farm Site in preparation for the tender procedure. All available data will be published at offshorewind.rvo.nl.

Memorandum Scope and Level of Detail

The Memorandum Scope and Level of Detail for the Ten noorden van de Waddeneilanden Wind Farm Zone (the memorandum is only available in Dutch) will be available for inspection on 29 January 2021.
