Horizon 2020 is the European Commission programme for financing European research and innovation projects.
Team IRIS (International Research and Innovation Cooperation), a part of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, is the National Contact Point (NCP) for Horizon 2020 in the Netherlands.

The Horizon 2020 programme has ended. Horizon Europe is the successor and builds on the succes of Horizon 2020 for the period of 2021-2027.

Scientific research for society
Through Horizon 2020, the European Commission (EC) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy aim at increasing Europe's competitive position. It must help to strengthen scientific knowledge and stimulate innovation. In addition, the EC wants to challenge business and academia to collaborate in creating solutions for pan-European societal challenges, such as climate change, the ageing population, food safety and security and affordable renewable energy.
Horizon 2020 began on 1 January 2014 and is the successor of the FP7 programme. The budget is € 80 billion for the 7-year duration of the programme.
