Dutch Surge Support responds to calls for water-related disaster relief around the globe. At the request of humanitarian organisations, the DSS water initiative rapidly deploys Dutch water experts to assist in emergency situations.
Experts can help with water and sanitation issues, water resources management and water supply, among others. The DSS water initiative was founded by the Dutch government, in close collaboration with the Dutch water sector and the Netherlands Red Cross.
Water-related emergency aid
The Dutch are world-renowned for their water expertise. Dutch experts are involved in water-related projects all over the globe. As a result, the experts deployed through the DSS water initiative cover the entire disaster management cycle. From mitigation, preparation and response to recovery.
Their expertise contributes to saving lives and keeping regions habitable. With DSS water, the Netherlands helps to improve the international response to water-related disasters and gaining knowledge on water-related emergency aid.
The DSS water teams are supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP). These organisations maintain contact with international humanitarian organisations and coordinate the deployment of selected Dutch water experts.
DSS water and the Dutch Risk Reduction Team
The DSS water initiative is an addition to the Dutch Risk Reduction Team (DRR), which aims to prevent water-related disasters and helps with reconstruction work.
