Intellectual property
An international business plan should include an intellectual property (IP) chapter. This way, you can position your company to optimally use IP rights' strategic and financial benefits. This includes patents and their alternatives. Also, it prepares you to mitigate infringement risks when doing business abroad.
The Netherlands Patent Office supports Dutch companies in developing their IP strategy at several milestones. Our workshops, search products, or consultations with our experts address essential questions like:
- How do I enforce IP rights or the risk of infringement on foreign IP rights?
- What actions should I take to create insight into infringement risks abroad?
- How do I deal with trade secrets or other confidential information when seeking new partnerships?
- What actions should I take to make strategic use of IP?
The Netherlands Patent Office is part of a governmental agency aiming to promote the development of innovative SMEs. Therefore, it provides its services free of charge. Please contact one of our regional patent advisors to discuss any IP-related questions in confidence:

Recruiting foreign talent
When your scale-up grows, you may want to look for the most talented employees outside the Netherlands or Europe. At the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), you can apply for residence permits for essential startup personnel. Also, you can become a recognised sponsor for highly skilled migrants. This sponsorship allows your recruited personnel to obtain a fast-track residence permit. Becoming a recognised sponsor is often an interesting option for fast-growing companies.
