The water quality of bathing water decreases during hot periods
Published on:

What can a municipality do if the bathing water quality decreases during a hot period?
Municipality is heat-proof if
- Official swimming locations are designed in such a way that water quality always meets swimming requirements and there are sufficient swimming locations available during heat.
- At unofficial swimming locations it is also clearly communicated that the water may not be of sufficient quality (e.g. sewer overflows) and may also not be safe enough for swimming (busy waterways).
Measures
- Sufficient official swimming locations in the municipality.
- Management plan of swimming locations to prevent diseases during a heat wave.
- Agreements about monitoring bathing water quality during hot periods with relevant organizations.
- Crisis and communication plan for when bathing water has insufficient quality.
- Providing insight into where sewer overflows occur or where other unsafe situations may arise
