Operational wind farms in the North Sea

There are 10 active wind farms in the Dutch North Sea, which ensure a combined total installed capacity of around 4.7 gigawatts (GW).

  • Egmond aan Zee wind farm (OWEZ) opened in 2007, approximately 11 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee and with an installed capacity of 108 megawatts (MW). Shell and Nuon built this wind farm together under the name NoordzeeWind. Wind turbine type: Vestas V90.
  • Prinses Amalia wind farm, approximately 23 kilometers off the coast of IJmuiden, has been generating approximately 120 MW of electricity since 2008. Eneco built this wind farm. Wind turbine type: Vestas V80.
  • The 3rd offshore wind farm opened in 2015: Luchterduinen wind farm, approximately 23 kilometers off the coast and with a capacity of 129 MW. Eneco and Mitsubishi Corporation built this offshore wind farm together. Wind turbine type: Vestas V112.
  • The Buitengaats and Zee-Energie offshore wind farms (together: Gemini wind farm), located 60 kilometers off the coast, opened in 2017, north of the Wadden Islands. Wind farm Gemini has a capacity of 600 MW. 4 companies worked together to make Gemini possible: Northland Power (60% stake), Siemens (20%), Van Oord (10%) and HVC (10%). Wind turbine type: Siemens SWT-4.0-130.
  • Since the end of 2020, the Borssele I and II wind farms have been supplying electricity to the mainland grid. The wind farm is located approximately 24 kilometers off the Zeeland coast. Ørsted built this park. Wind turbine type: Siemens Gamesa 8.0 MW-167 DD.
  • At the end of 2020, Blauwwind II C.V. realised the Borssele III and IV wind farms. Blauwwind II C.V. is a consortium of Shell, Van Oord, Eneco and Mitsubishi/DGE. Wind turbine type: V164 - 9.5 MW.
  • Within the innovation site (site V) of the Borssele Wind Farm Zone, Two Towers has been using 2 wind turbines, type V164 - 9.5 MW, since February 2021. Two Towers is owned by Octopus Energy Group.
  • In September 2023, Vattenfall took sites I to IV of the Hollandse Kust Zuid Wind Farm Zone into use. This wind farm has a capacity of 1520 MW. Wind turbine type: Siemens Gamesa.
  • In December 2023, CrossWind C.V. delivered the Hollandse Kust Noord V wind farm, with a capacity of 759 MW. Wind turbine type: Siemens Gamesa.
