How can a municipality support companies with declining labor productivity during heat?
Municipality is heatproof if
- Companies and employees know how to deal with heat, so that decreases in labor productivity are kept to a minimum.
- Business parks are being made greener and designed to be cool.
Measures
Companies have a heat protocol with, among other things, agreements on:
- Adjustment of working hours during hot periods.
- Application of advice against heat within the work situation.
- Heat-resistant measures in the building or in the workplace.
- Heat-resistant measures in the area.
Tips
- The municipality has a facilitating role here, but can explore possible heat-related bottlenecks in companies and their employees, based on the local heat stress map.
- Based on the exploration, invite companies to a meeting where the exploration is discussed and agreements are made regarding knowledge and experience sharing regarding the development of a heat protocol per company and advice for employees outside working hours (particularly at night).
- A joint process can be drawn up for clusters of companies (business parks), shopping areas and catering establishments, in which collective agreements can also be made.
- After a summer with a heat period, organize a repeat meeting to share experiences and new knowledge, which can lead to adjustments to company or collective heat protocols.
