What can a municipality do at events during a hot period?

Municipality is heatproof if

  • The municipality has a heat plan that also includes protocols to prevent heat stress during events.

Measures

A heat protocol for events including:

  • Plenty of water taps.
  • Sufficient first aid stations.
  • Heat training first aiders.
  • Create shade and coolness with greenery, parasols or ' misting stations'.
  • Inform participants and distribute hats and sunscreen.

Tips

  • Make an overview of festivals and events in the summer half-year and determine which events are at risk of heat stress and/or extreme weather.
  • Contact the organizers of these events, draw up a heat protocol and provide them with information about the risks and measures to be taken in the event of heat stress during the event. This is part of the GHOR advice : Information for event organizers | RIVM (in Dutch).
  • During a heat wave, provide assistance to event organizers to reduce the effects of heat stress,
  • See explanation of the problem (in Dutch) by the Heat Resistant City.
