Are you active in the field of (liquid) hydrogen focused on storage and transport? And would you like to work on innovation exchange and technology development with partners from Canada and the United States (US)? Are you interested in hydrogen developments in these countries and does your organisation offer solutions in this sector? Then join our Hydrogen Innovation mission to Alberta (Canada) and Texas (US).

Monday

until
Friday
21 November

Attendee information

  • Participation costs € 250 excluding VAT per person
  • Register before 15 July 2025

Organiser

  • Netherlands Enterprise Agency
  • Netherlands Innovation Network

This innovation mission goes to 2 key hydrogen regions in Canada and the US: Alberta and Texas. The mission focuses on strengthening R&D and innovation partnerships between the Netherlands and these North American regions that are at the forefront of (liquid) hydrogen applications, with a focus on storage and transportation.

Different ways of transporting and storing (liquid) hydrogen offer opportunities for material improvements and technological developments in the supply chain. These lead to reducing costs through efficiency. Through this mission, among others, the Netherlands is working on the necessary conditions for developing an international hydrogen market, such as strengthening and improving infrastructure (transport and storage capacity) in internationally relevant hydrogen ecosystems.

For whom?

Are you an entrepreneur, technology provider or connected to a knowledge institution as a researcher? And are you active in one of the hydrogen themes below? Then this innovation mission may be of interest to you.

Themes

During this mission, we will look at the following themes:

  • Cryogenic storage & transport:
    Explore cooperation in (liquid) hydrogen storage, cooling technologies, tank systems and transport logistics.
  • Production technologies for (liquid) hydrogen:
    Innovation in efficient electrolysis, purification and liquefaction processes.
  • Materials & safety:
    Research on suitable materials for external temperatures, safety standards, and anti-leakage systems.
  • International trade & regulation:
    Consultation with policy makers on certification, regulation and the role of liquid hydrogen in cross-border energy flows.

We sharpen these themes further based on participants' interests and expertise.

Why participate?

  • This mission offers you a unique opportunity to build cooperation, exchange knowledge and jointly work on scalable solutions around (liquid) hydrogen. As a participant in this mission:
  • you will gain direct access to ecosystems in Texas and Alberta that are actively deploying (liquid) hydrogen technologies.
  • you will meet industry leaders and relevant research programmes in (liquid) hydrogen projects.
  • you will discover joint R&D initiatives in production, storage, logistics and application of (L)H2.
  • gain insights into market opportunities, regulations and financing possibilities.

Why Canada and the US?

Texas and Alberta invest heavily in the entire value chain of (liquid) hydrogen - from production through very low temperature (cryogenic) technology, to transportation, storage and industrial applications. Both regions contain leading companies, universities and government initiatives actively working on large-scale deployment of (liquid) hydrogen. Both regions are strategically very interesting for (liquid) hydrogen for the following reasons:

With its strong R&D ecosystem, systems knowledge and technologies in materials, refrigeration engineering and hydrogen infrastructure, the Netherlands can play a key role in cooperation with both countries.

Concept programme

The innovation mission will take place in Alberta and Texas. The programme is still under development. In determining the final programme, specific wishes of participating parties will be taken into account as much as possible.

The draft programme contains 4 days of substantive programme and 1 travel day. In brief:

  • visits to companies and knowledge institutions;
  • meetings with relevant stakeholders, including network organisations and government;
  • matchmaking;
  • networking receptions;
  • opportunity to pitch your company or research.

During the preparation phase, digital intake interviews will be held with interested participants (individual and/or plenary).

Costs

The cost of participating in the innovation mission is €250 excluding VAT per person. This includes:

  • participation in the collective programme;
  • transfers to and from programme components;
  • lunch and dinners (as mentioned in the programme).

Participation does not include:

  • travel and accommodation costs;
  • all individual costs, such as lunches and dinners outside the programme.

Register

Would you like to participate? Then apply before 15 July through our online application form.

Final participation depends on the number of places available. We will also consider how well your technology and expertise fits within the scope and purpose of the mission.
