Offshore wind farms generate sustainably produced electricity, but they also have an impact on the environment. Are you a developer, contractor, or NGO working on offshore wind energy? If so, sign up for this workshop on new measures by the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) to avoid, reduce, or offset these negative effects.

For whom?

The workshop is intended for developers, contractors, and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) working on offshore wind energy.

What can you expect?

The rapid and largescale expansion of offshore wind energy in the North Seas - up to 200 GW by 2040 - will increase pressures from human activities in an already intensively used marine environment. In response, the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) is developing a catalogue of environmental mitigation measures for offshore wind energy development to avoid, reduce and/or offset potentially significant adverse environmental impacts. The catalogue is accompanied by a guidance document to be presented at the NSEC Ministerial Meeting in 2026.

During this workshop, we will explore the feasibility, effectiveness and proportionality of environmental mitigation measures for offshore wind energy development. The aim is to incorporate the industry’s perspective into the guidance and to identify opportunities to improve the governance of such measures across NSEC countries. This document will be provided at a later stage after your registration.

Valuable input for the guidance document

At this workshop, we will present our work to open up discussion with industry representatives as key stakeholders. We are keen to hear your views on and experiences of the measures included in the draft catalogue. Are these measures feasible, effective and proportionate? Are there additional, promising conceptual measures that should be considered? We will discuss this and more during the workshop. After the workshop, we invite you to join the networking lunch.
